Energy assets generate revenue by engaging in energy markets and providing grid services.
For example, batteries can charge when electricity prices are cheap (typically when there is an abundance in renewable generation), and sell that power back when electricity prices are expensive (typically when there is low renewable generation or high demand).
Assets are also paid by network operators to provide additional services that keep the grid healthy, such as turning demand up or down, or delivering extra power when it’s needed.
In some cases, there will be a power purchase agreement with a particular energy user, that means systems can generate additional income by selling power directly to that user, at a pre-agreed price.
