Community-scale batteries
We are building a coordinated network of community-scale batteries, connected to the local grid.
Batteries have a huge part to play in achieving a net-zero electricity grid – by storing up excess renewable generated power when abundant and deploying it when the grid needs it most.
By storing the energy at a local level, our system combines the benefits of large-scale grid batteries with improved local energy resilience and security.
Why does it matter?
Our network will help the UK reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels while bringing down everyone’s energy bills.
Strategic storage to support the grid at a national scale
Supports the UK’s electricity grid with safe and secure energy that doesn’t rely on imported fossil fuels.
Energy security and reliability at a local scale
Our AI optimisation system predicts and manages local energy flows in real time, to increase local grid resilience and reduce the risk of power cuts.
Reducing everyone’s bills
Over £6bn will be saved by 2050 through less energy wastage and reduced need for grid upgrades - saving every household hundreds of pounds on their bills.
What’s in it for the Local Community?
01
Income.
Through direct community ownership or revenue share, each installed battery provides stable income for a 15+ year period.
02
Reliability.
Each battery site protects the electricity supply of local citizens, preventing power dips, surges and even backup power in an outage.
03
Climate.
Each battery saves ~50 tonnes of CO2 per year by reducing the UK’s reliance on fossil fuels, helping local areas achieve climate goals without inconvenience or cost.
