Our Technology

Envol Energy has developed a predictive AI system that understands how electricity is being generated and used at a local level, then determines how connected energy assets should respond.

By integrating real-time local data with our custom edge-based AI, our system can forecast changing local energy needs, identify emerging network constraints and continuously optimise when electricity should be stored, deployed or retained.

The result is a local energy network that responds instantly to hyper-local conditions to ensure a smarter, more resilient local electricity grid, whilst simultaneously optimising financial returns across the assets it controls, including community-scale batteries.

Why the grid needs intelligent local management

The UK’s electricity grid is becoming increasingly strained.

The increasing uptake in electric vehicles, heat pumps and renewable generation are creating new and rapidly increasing demands on local electricity networks. Concentrated local demand spikes are damaging grid infrastructure and increasingly leading to local voltage fluctuations, power cuts and even substation fires.

DNOs currently have no way to actively manage local networks - without this the only option is significant local grid infrastructure upgrade which will cost bill-payers £50B to meet 2050 demand:

60x more domestic heat pumps

Real-time, active local network management allows the grid to accommodate this increased demand, while saving £Bs in reduced upgrade costs.

Our edge-based, predictive AI system continually analyses and forecasts local demand, local generation, energy asset availability, network constraints and market conditions. Simulating future scenarios, it then makes real-time decisions to dispatch local energy assets to provide infrastructure-grade virtual reinforcement, while maximising financial returns for the asset owners.

How the system works

Our system connects to local energy assets, including EV chargers, heat pumps, community batteries, etc., aggregating them into a cohesive virtual reinforcement asset, that can be controlled as required.

Local device integration

The closed-loop control system ensures autonomous, real-time response to network conditions, providing infrastructure-grade virtual reinforcement. Optional hard-wired battery backup can provide resilience in a cloud outage.

The predictive AI forecasts energy market pricing and asset status, to trade spare asset capacity across energy and flexibility markets – maximising financial returns for asset owners without compromising local grid stability.

Revenue optimisation

Custom AI models deployed directly at the edge continually forecast local demand, local generation, and energy asset availability. The system then to proactively dispatches assets to prevent network issues before they occur.
